Mitch Jeffe shot a one-under, 71, to climb into a tie for seventh-place and help the Mountain Cats maintain their tie for sixth-place after Friday's Second Round of the NCAA Division II East/Atlantic Region Golf Championships at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, NY.
St. Thomas Aquinas (NY) holds the overall lead (586) by four strokes over second-place Southern New Hampshire College (590) in the 20-team field. Pitt-Johnstown is tied for sixth with Le Moyne (NY) College, 11 shots back at 597.
St. Thomas Aquinas' Nolan Skaggs is the overall leader after two rounds at -2.
Jeffe, who shot a 74 to open the tournament for the Mountain Cats, shot a one-under, 71, on Friday to climb 22 spots into a tie for seventh-place at +1.Â
Justin Scally shot a pair of 75s and is tied for 42nd at +6 (150), while
Sal Cerilli shot 72 and 80 and is tied for 56th-place at +8 (152). Pitt-Johnstown's
Mario Battaglia is tied for 65th (80, 74, 154) at 10-over par, and
Brendan Villnave is tied for 91st at +14 (76, 82, 158) entering Saturday's final round.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals May 16-20 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Michigan. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Wayne State (Michigan) and the Detroit Sports Commission.
