Box Score
Pitt-Johnstown came alive in the second half with a pair of goals that provided the winning margin in a decisive 2-0 shutout of visiting Cal (PA) on Wednesday afternoon.
Haley Neidig continued her frantic scoring pace by registering both tallies to help the Mountain Cats improve to 3-9-4 overall (3-8-3 PSAC West). The redshirt junior from South Williamsport has played in all 16 matches and now sits alone atop the conference with 10 goals scored.
The defense also shined in front of goalkeeper Megan Giesey, limiting the Vulcans to just five shots on goal. Giesey collected five saves in all 90 minutes of action.Â
After a slow-paced first half where neither team created many opportunities, Neidig broke up a scoreless tie in the 52nd minute after receiving an assist from freshman Julia Mayernick and beating Vulcans goalkeeper Emily Ouimet.
Pitt-Johnstown was outshot 5-0 over the next 17 minutes. But that stretch was quickly forgotten when Neidig took a feed from Lydia Roman and buried her second goal in the 70th minute to grab a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The offense also opened up more following the insurance tally as the Mountain Cats outshot the Vulcans 6-1 over the final 20 minutes. Neidig finished with a match-high five shots on goal while midfielder Megan Dietz recorded two in 67 minutes.
Ouimet had eight saves for the Vulcans, who dropped to 2-11-2 overall (1-10-2 PSAC).
The Mountain Cats wrap up their home slate when PSAC West-leading Mercyhurst visits on Saturday at 2 p.m. They'll finish up the regular season with a visit to Clarion set for Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
