The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team will host a pair of PSAC Western Division matches this weekend. On Friday, Pitt-Johnstown will take on Clarion at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center, before playing host to Indiana (PA) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Pitt-Johnstown, under
Head Coach Justin Haupt, comes in at 16-7 overall and 6-4 in the PSAC West following Tuesday's, 3-1, non-conference win at Shippensburg.
Lualis Alvarado's career-high 25 kills led the Mountain Cats.
Head Coach Jennifer Herron's (17
th year), Clarion Golden Eagles have dropped their last two matches and are 19-4 overall and 9-2 in the PSAC West after Tuesday's five-set loss to Indiana (PA). Cassidy Snider had a match-high 25 kills for the Golden Eagles.
Clarion swept two conference matches from the Mountain Cats last year. The Golden Eagles earned a three-set win in Clarion on Sept. 30, before holding the Mountain Cats off, 3-1, in Johnstown on Oct. 25.
Cassidy led Clarion with a match-high 21 kills, while Pitt-Johnstown got a dozen kills from
Alvarado.
Indiana (PA), under second-year
Coach Lorelle Hoyer, made it five straight win is 18-7 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC West. After sweeping Mercyhurst last Friday, the Crimson Hawks traveled to Clarion on Tuesday and got 12 kills apiece from
Nyla Brich and
Simay Memisoglu in five-set victory.
Last year, IUP took two conference matches from the Mountain Cats. On Sept. 27 in the Sports Center, the Crimson Hawks earned a four-set victory, led by
Nicole Peterson's 16 kills. IUP the swept Pitt-Johnstown in Indiana on Oct. 28. Peterson added 11 kills, and
Lualis Alvarado had eight kills for Pitt-Johnstown.
Pitt-Johnstown closes out the 2023 regular season home schedule with PSAC matches against Gannon on Friday and Mercyhurst and Mercyhurst for Senior Day next Saturday.
