Head Coach Bob Rukavina and the Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball will make their 2023-24 home debuts with a non-conference game against Penn State-New Kensington, Tuesday evening in the Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
The Mountain Cats, 0-2 to begin the season, suffered a pair of losses at last weekend's Indiana (PA) Hilton Garden Inn Classic. On Friday,
Andrew Shull scored 19 points, and
Gavin Headings made his collegiate debut with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to pace five Mountain Cat double-figure scorers in an 89-76 loss to Notre Dame (OH). Pitt-Johnstown suffered a 78-71 setback to Concord (WV) on Saturday.
Andy Zuchelli scored a career-high 14 points,
Nick Watts had 13 points and eight rebounds in his second collegiate game, and
Headings tallied 12 points.
Head Coach Brant Mack's (4
th season) Penn State New Kensington Lions opened the season with a 100-96 victory over the Community College of Allegheny County on Saturday.
Pitt-Johnstown and Penn State New Kensington have met on one other occasion. On Nov. 14, 2014,
Matt Palo's game-high 17 points and
Ajan Smith's 16 points led eight Mountain Cats who scored in double figures in a 118-40 victory in the Sports Center.
Joshua Jenkins led the Lions with nine points.
The Mountain Cats will compete in the Indiana (PA) Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-26, before opening PSAC Crossover-play at Lock Haven on Dec. 1 and at Mansfield on Dec. 2. Pitt-Johnstown will return to the Sports Center to begin a three-game home stand with a non-conference game against Indianapolis on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.
