Eight Mountain Cat Wrestlers Set For National Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

JOHNSTOWN, PA –2022-23 Super Region I Coach of the Year Pat Pecora and a group eight of Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat wrestlers will travel to the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to compete in Friday and Saturday's NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships.   The top eight place winners in each weight class become NCAA Division II All-Americans.
 
The Mountain Cats won their 25th NCAA Regional Championship at East Stroudsburg University on Feb. 25 and came away with a total of eight national qualifiers.  Pitt-Johnstown boasted four individual champions, one runner-up, and three third-place finishers.  The top three place-winners in each of the 10 weight classes earned spots at the national tournament.
 
Trevon Gray (125 lbs.), Jacob Ealy (149 lbs.), Nate Smith (157 lbs.), and Brock Biddle (184 lbs.) all won titles, while Isaiah Vance was the runner-up at 285 lbs.  In addition, Byron Daubert (133 lbs.), Caleb Morris (141 lbs.), and Dakoda Rodgers (197 lbs.) all finished third to round of the eight national qualifiers.

Ealy is the No. 1 seed at 149 lbs. for the national tournament, while Smith is seeded sixth at 157 lbs., and Biddle is sixth at 184 lbs.

Friday's First Session will begin at 11 a.m. EDT with the Preliminary matches and the First Round. (120 matches), (approx. 3 ½ hours)
 
Friday's Session II is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will feature Championship Second Round matches and the 1st & 2nd Round of the Consolation, 6 mats (120 matches), (approx. 3 ½ hours)
 
On Saturday, Session III will start at 11 a.m. EDT and consist of the Championship Semifinals, 3rd Round of Consolations, Consolation Semifinals, and 3rd, 5th, 7th Place Matches, (90 matches), (approx. 5 hours)
 
The Parade of All-Americans will take place on Saturday at 7:40 p.m., followed the Championship Finals scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT (10 matches).
