Mitch Jeffe Ties for 24th, Golfers Finish Ninth at West Liberty Invitational

Jeffe_Mitch.jpgMitch Jeffe shot a 6-over-par, including an even-par, 71 on Tuesday, to tie for 24th-place and lead the Pitt-Johnstown golf team to a ninth-place finish at the West Liberty (WV) University Open.

Malone's (OH) Connor Curry took home medalist honors by shooting 3-under in the 3-day tournament at the Palmer Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, W.Va., Findlay (OH) won the team title at 12-under-par, 12 shots better than second-place Charleston (WV).

After shooting 77 on Sunday, Jeffe bounced back with a pair of 71s to finish tied for 24th in the 85-golfer field at +6.

Sal Cerilli (75, 77, 71, 223), playing as an individual, and Ethan Webb (75, 73, 75, 223) tied for 36th-place at +10, while Mauricio Hernandez Esparza (78, 74, 72, 224) and Justin Scally (74, 76, 74, 224) tied for 38th, one stroke behind Cerilli and Webb at +11.  Mario Battaglia tied for 60th at 21-over-par (84, 74, 76, 234).

Findlay and Charleston finished first and second, respectively in the 14-team field, while West Liberty, Malone, and Glenville State (WV) all tied for third at +9.  The Mountain Cats placed ninth at 36-over-par.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to the Mercyhurst Spring Invitational at Lakeview Country Club in Northeast, Pa. on April 14-15, before closing out the 2023 season at the Indiana (PA) Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational at Indiana Country Club on April 17-18.
