Mountain Cats cruise past Clarion

Crawford, CassidyFranklin, KylahSenior Cassidy Crawford registered her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Pitt-Johnstown had no trouble dispatching winless Clarion for a 68-56 win on Wednesday night in the Sports Center.

The Mountain Cats led by as many as 21 points midway through the third quarter on their way to improving to 10-4 (5-3 PSAC).

Kylah Franklin went 8 for 13 from the field and set a season-high with 16 points along with six rebounds. Peyton Alazaus added 10 points and six rebounds, and Hayden Taylor chipped in eight points to pair with two blocks.

Pitt-Johnstown trailed only twice, the last time coming when it fell behind 8-7 courtesy of a 3-pointer from Clarion's Abby Gatesman. Freshman Camille Dominick hit a jumper in the waning seconds to put the Mountain Cats up 19-15 heading into the second.

The Golden Eagles were within one possession in the early stages of the second until the tide began to turn. The Mountain Cats seized control over the final five minutes with an 11-2 rally capped by a layup from Franklin to go into the locker room with a 37-26 lead, their largest to that point.

The outcome was never in doubt after Pitt-Johnstown opened the second half on a 12-2 rally that included eight points from Crawford that extended the lead to 49-28. 

The Mountain Cats shot 43.9% (29 of 66) from the field and held a 42-34 advantage on the glass. They turned 14 Clarion turnovers into 17 points and limited the Golden Eagles to just a 37.7% (23 of 61) mark from the floor. The two teams combined to attempt only 11 free throws.

Autumn Taylor provided a game-high 26 points to pair with seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who dropped to 0-14 (0-8 PSAC). 

Pitt-Johnstown visits Edinboro on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off from McComb Fieldhouse.
