

Not only did the Mountain Cat men's golf team have to battle 14 other teams in Monday's first round of the inaugural Pitt Johnstown Sunnehanna Collegiate at historic Sunnehanna Country Club, but the Mountain Cats and nearly 100 other golfers competed with rain throughout much of the day.

Freshman
Lucas Smith shot an even par 70 led the Mountain Cats and put him in a four-way tie for third-place to help Pitt-Johnstown climb into sixth-place in the 15-team field after entering Tuesday's second round.

Gannon's Mattia Parrini shot a 3-under, 67, to hold the lead by one stroke over West Chester's Connor Strine and put the Golden Knights on top of the leaderboard at five-over, three strokes better than second-place Millersville.

Pitt-Johnstown's
Justin Scally is tied for 21
st following his four-over, 74, while
Mario Battaglia,
Jake Morgan, and
Eli Ropietski all shot six-over 76 to tie for 40
th-place.

Mark Yan's five-over (75) led the Mountain Cat 'B' Team and has him in a tie for 30
th-place, and
Mauricio Hernandez joins the three other Pitt-Johnstown golfers tied for 40
th at 6-over.Â
Parker Hilchey and
Sal Cerilli are both tied for 50
th (+7, 77), and
Tyler Mocello is tied for 68
th at +10 (80).

Gannon (+5) and Millersville (+8) are the top-two teams after the opening day. Davis & Elkins (WV) and Ohio Dominican are tied for third (+11), while West Chester rounds out the top-five at +13. Pitt-Johnstown is sixth at +16.

Tuesday's tee times for the Sunnehanna Collegiate are scheduled start on hole No. 1 and No. 10 at 9 a.m.
