The Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball team will host its first ever meeting against South Carolina-Beaufort, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m. following Pitt-Johnstown's volleyball match against Clarion.
Head Coach Bob Rukavina (36
th-year) and the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 2-1 to start the year, opened the home schedule with a convincing, 112-68, non-conference win over Penn State-Greater Allegheny, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center.
Ryan Smith's game-high 18 points led six Mountain Cats who finished in double figures. Freshman forward
Baden Forup posted a career-high double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while freshman guard
Jay Rose netted 15 points. Pitt-Johnstown also got 14 points from
Nick Watts, 12 points and seven boards from
Vinnie Cugini, and 12 points and six rebounds from
Adam Bilinsky.
Sean Dillon also had five points and a game-high nine assists.
South Carolina-Beaufort, under second-year
Head Coach Ron Fudala, comes in at 2-0 after winning a pair of games at last weekend's Southeast Regional Crossover in St. Augustine, Fla.
Alejandro Ralat scored 29 points and
Kyle Polce added 22 points in Friday's season-opening, 104-101, overtime win over Francis Marion (SC). USC-Beaufort then got 35 points and six rebounds from
Kenney Gaines to pace six Sand Sharks who scored in double figures in a, 104-102, double overtime victory over Emory & Henry (VA) on Saturday.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a non-conference game at D'Youville (NY) on Monday, before opening PSAC Crossover-play with doubleheaders with the women's team against Lock Haven on Friday and Mansfield next Saturday. The women will tip-off Friday's games at 3 p.m. in the Sports Center. Saturday's games are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
