Mountain Cats upended by Edinboro on Senior Day

Johnstown, PA

Franklin, KylahCrawford, CassidyPitt-Johnstown could not find enough traction to keep pace with Edinboro, slipping into a 20-point halftime deficit before suffering an 80-51 loss on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats dropped to 14-9 overall and 9-8 in the PSAC.

The women's program honored eight seniors during pregame festivities: Krista Troyer, Olivia Fasick, Peyton Alazaus, Kendyl McKissock, Alana Belknap, Kylah Franklin, Hayden Taylor and Cassidy Crawford.

Franklin went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line and paced the Mountain Cats with a team-best 15 points and four steals. Crawford added 12 points and matched a team-high by grabbing five rebounds. Freshman Belle Bosch had eight points and five boards.

After a 3-pointer by Taylor tied the game at 6-all near the midway point of the first, it was all Edinboro. The Scots executed well on the interior and shot 63% (12-for-19) from the field to cap the first quarter on a 20-6 rally that put them on top 26-12.

A pair of free throws from Crawford were the only points the Mountain Cats mustered up in the opening six minutes of the second. Meanwhile, the Scots capitalized with 14 points in that span and went up 40-14 on Hayley Sims' jumper at the 4:38 mark.

Despite six straight points that included a jumper from Crawford with 24 seconds left, Pitt-Johnstown found itself in an insurmountable 43-23 hole at the break.

The Mountain Cats finished with a 28.6% (14-for-49) clip from the floor and were 20-of-24 from the free-throw line. The Scots closed the game with a 53.8% (28-for-52) mark and shot a near-perfect 18-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Edinboro had a significant 39-21 edge on the glass and a 40-18 advantage in points in the paint. Morgan Gentile provided a game-high 22 points and six rebounds, while Sims added 21 points and five boards for the Scots, who moved to 13-9 overall (11-6 PSAC).

Pitt-Johnstown will look to right the ship with a visit to Indiana (Pa.) set for Wednesday night with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
