The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will welcome back Alumni, families, and friends for Winterfest Weekend when they host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Slippery Rock, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. The women's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3:00 pm.
Pitt-Johnstown, 2-21 overall and 0-16 in the PSAC under first-year Head Coach
D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy, took Indiana (PA) to overtime on Wednesday, before suffering a, 79-67, setback.
Belle Bosch led three Mountain Cats who scored in double figures with 16 points and six rebounds.
M'laya Ainsworth had 12 points and six rebounds, and
Riley Childress tallied 11 points and a game-high six assists.
Lexi Margolis and
Camille Dominick each added nine points.
Head Coach Ryenn Micaletti's (2
nd-year) Slippery Rock team comes in at 7-15 overall and 4-12 in conference-play following Wednesday's, 81-40, home loss to No. 23 Gannon.
Sophia Hook had nine points and four rebounds, while
Hannah Pugliese and
Anye Washington scored six and five points, respectively against the Golden Knights.
Since the 2004-05 season, the Mountain Cats hold a 22-7 advantage in the series. The Rock snapped a five-game losing streak to Pitt-Johnstown with a 71-58 win in Slippery Rock on Jan. 6. Bosch had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while
Sophia Ott (11 points), Ainsworth (10 points), and Margolis (10 points) all scored in double figures for the Mountain Cats.
Regan Atkins' game-high 24 points, and Hook's 21 points and seven rebounds paced Slippery Rock.
The Mountain Cats, under
Head Coach Bob Rukavina, raised their record to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the PSAC following Wednesday's impressive, 79-74, victory over Indiana (PA) in the Sports Center.
Ryan Smith poured in a game-high 23 points, while
Baden Forup had 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and
Adam Bilinsky chipped-in 16 points and six assists for Pitt-Johnstown.
Following his 23-point effort against the Crimson Hawks,
Smith enters the game ranked 21
st on the Pitt-Johnstown Scoring List with 1,224 points, seven points shy of tying
Bill Luther (2010-2014) for 20
th-place.
Sean Dillon comes in with 1,005 career points.
Head Coach Ian Grady's (7
th year) Slippery Rock squad has lost its last four games and is 11-13 overall and 7-9 in the PSAC after Wednesday's, 84-59, home loss to Gannon.
Jomo Goings had 14 points and six rebounds, and
Maceo Austin finished with 14 points and five rebounds to lead the Rock.
Day Waters also had 13 points against the Golden Knights.
Since the 1972-73 season, the Mountain Cats hold a 39-25 advantage in the series. In the last meeting on Jan. 6, the Rock got 22 points and 12 rebounds from Goings and 21 and 20 points, respectively from Austin and Waters in a 90-74 victory in Slippery Rock. Smith scored 21 points, while Forup had 20 points and
Jay Rose added 15 points for Pitt-Johnstown.
Pitt-Johnstown visits California (PA) for a PSAC West doubleheader on Wednesday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day with a conference doubleheader with the women's team against Gannon, next Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
