First-year
Head Coach George Roberts and the Pitt-Johnstown baseball team will host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Slippery Rock, Saturday afternoon at Point Stadium. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game slated for 30 minutes after the completion of the opener.
Prior to kicking off the PSAC West schedule at Slippery Rock on Friday, Mountain Cats had won five of the last six games and were 7-9 overall and 0-0 in the conference. The Mountain Cats took 3-of-4 from Bloomsburg last weekend. After splitting two games at Bloomsburg on Friday, Pitt-Johnstown swept the Huskies, 6-3, and 3-2 in the home-opener at Point Stadium last Saturday.
Head Coach Jeff Messer's (40
th year) Slippery Rock squad was 9-6 overall and 0-0 in conference-play prior to Friday's games. The Rock erased an early two-run deficit then scored a pair of runs in the 10
th inning to earn a 5-3, non-conference win at Walsh (OH) on Tuesday.
Last season, The Rock won three of the four meetings between the two teams. On March 22 in Slippery Rock,
Rodney Shultz tossed a complete game and fanned 10, and
Brody Roberts and
Josh Reynolds each drove in runs to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 2-1 win to open a doubleheader. The Rock came back with a 5-2 win in game two, then swept the Mountain Cats in Johnstown, 6-0, and 5-4, the next day.
Pitt-Johnstown visits Frostburg State (MD) for a non-conference game on Wednesday, before starting a four-game, home-and-home PSAC West series with Clarion, Friday afternoon at Point Stadium.
