Mauricio Hernandez finished in a tie for fifth-place at seven over par to lead the Mountain Cat golfers, ranked second in the Atlantic Region, to a tie for fourth-place with Millersville at Monday and Tuesday's 2025 California (PA) Vulcan Fire Classic at Lone Pine Country Club in Washington.
Millersville's Timothy Peters claimed medalist honors with an even par over the two days, but Cal U won the team title at +37, 13 strokes better than second-place Wilmington (DE). Cal U's 'B' team finished third at +51, and Pitt-Johnstown and Millersville tied for fourth at +53 in the 10-team field.
After shooting four-over on Monday, Hernandez shot a three over on Tuesday to tie for fifth with Millersville's Maxwell Pflieger.Â
Lucas Smith (+7, +3) and
Eli Ropietski (+8, +2), playing as an independent, finished in a five-way tie for seventh at +10, and
Mario Battaglia (+14, +7) and
Jake Morgan (+16, +5) closed out the tournament in a six-way tie for 28.Â
Ethan Webb rounded out the Mountain Cat golfers in 40th-place at +24 (+10, +14)
The Mountain Cats travel to the West Liberty Invitational on April 7 and 8 and to the Indiana (PA) Spadafora Invitational on April 15 and 16.
