The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team pulled away from the field to sit atop the leaderboard after two rounds during day one at the Davis & Elkins Battle at Brunswick on Friday in Calabash, North Carolina.

The Mountain Cats shot 15-over par as a unit to pace the 15-team field, which included an 11-over mark in the opening round and a 4-over par performance in round two. 

Mario Battaglia and Lucas Smith sit at 2-over par, tying for 5th place with one other player after each shooting par in a round. Battaglia was even through the first round before finishing the day with a 2-over in round two. Smith went 2-over in round one before bouncing back with a par to close his day.

Similarly, Mauricio Hernandez and Ethan Webb are locked into a tie for 16th place with six other players at 7-over par. Webb fired a 2-over par in the second round and Hernandez checked in at 3-over par following a 4-over in the opening round.

Eli Ropietski finished the day in 32nd place, but bounced back to play an even-round after a 9-over par to start the day.

Mark Yan of Pitt-Johnstown's B squad finished at 10-over par and in 35th place. Jake Morgan of the B team tied a host of other players for 51st place with a 12-over par score, which included teammate Tyler Mocello. Sal Cerilli shot a 14-over par that tied four other players for 67th.

The B team currently sits at 12th overall on the leaderboard.

The Battle of Brunswick concludes with the third round scheduled to tee off with the top eight teams in the field at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
