The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team strung together a stellar showing to claim the Battle of Brunswick title with a 29-over par performance over three rounds on Friday and Saturday at Calabash, North Carolina.
The Mountain Cats won their second team championship in program history after winning their own inaugural invitational at Bedford Springs last season.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 8-over par in the final round and edged runner-up finisher Saginaw Valley State by four strokes after leading the Cardinals by five through the first two rounds.
Mario Battaglia paced the Mountain Cats by tying two other players for 3rd place at 4-over par. A 4-over par performance in round two was sandwiched between two rounds at even-par.
Lucas Smith took sole possession of 9th place with an 8-under par performance which included two rounds at 2-over par and a third round at 4-over par. Mauricio Hernandez finished just one stroke behind at 9-over par. Hernandez opened with a 4-over par in round one before a 3-over mark in round two and finished up with a 2-over par to close day two.
Eli Ropietski rebounded from a 9-over par in round one to shoot 1-over in round two and 2-over in round three to capture 14th place.
Ethan Webb rounded out the winning five by tying two other players for 20th at 15-over par. He shot 6-over in round three.
Pitt-Johnstown's B Team did not qualify in the final overall standings.
The Mountain Cats will have two weeks off before participating in the Vulcan Fire Classic on March 24 and 25 at Lone Pine Country Club in Washington.
