The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team put together a 627 (+59) between two rounds to finish 7th at the Cecil C. Spadafora IUP Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday at Indiana Country Club.
The Mountain Cats shot a 312 in the opening round before a 315 in the second round placed them squarely in the middle of the 13-team field that included seven other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Schools.
Charleston (WV) took home the team title after firing a 610 (+42), six strokes better than runner-up finishers IUP and California (Pa.).
Mauricio Hernandez paced the Mountain Cats with an 8-over 150 to tie two players from Davis & Elkins for 4th place. Justin Scally shot a 155 and finished in a tie for 18th with four other players, including teammate Jake Morgan who played as an independent.Â
Mario Battaglia checked in tied for 41st with three other players after recording a 160 (+18). Lucas Smith tied four other players for 52nd at 163 (+21). Eli Ropietski finished one stroke behind that mark in 57th place with a 164 (+22), tying four others, including Parker Hilchey who competed as an independent.
Charleston's Erik Ulvang fired a 6-over 148 to win the individual title by one stroke over IUP's Alex Swinnerton and teammate Carlos Fernandez Mortera.
The Mountain Cats, who are currently ranked 4th in the Atlantic Region, will participate in the Gannon's NCAA Regional Preview on Monday and Tuesday at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie.
