Pitt-Johnstown's
Mauricio Hernandez shot four-under-par after two rounds to finish third and lead the Pitt-Johnstown golfers to a runner-up finish at Monday's weather-shortened West Liberty University Spring Invitational at the Arnold Palmer Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling W.Va. Tuesday's finals round was canceled due to weather.
Davis & Elkins' Elias Jarn and Lucio Pavcich finished first and second., respectively at -7 and -6 to help the Senators claim the team championship at five-under-par. The Mountain Cats were second at +12 in the 10-team field.
After shooting +13 in the opening round, Pitt-Johnstown bounced back to shoot one-under par in the second round.
Hernandez finished second at -4 after shooting one-under to start and three-under in the second round.Â
Justin Scally, playing as an independent, tied for seventh at +1 (-1, +2), while
Lucas Smith tied for 15th at +4 (+6, -2) and
Mario Battaglia was tied for 25 at +7 (+3 +4). In addition,
Eli Ropietski ended in a tie for 3-th (+8-+8, E),
Jake Morgan tied for 36th (+11-+5, +6) and
Ethan Webb, also playing as an independent) tied for 46th at +14 (+4, +10).
Pitt-Johnstown will compete in the Indiana (PA) Spadafora Invitational at Indiana Country Club on April 15-16, and at the Gannon University NCAA Regional Preview on April 21-22 at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie.
