The Pitt-Johnstown men's golf team turned in a 20-over par 308 to move up one spot to 6th place after 36 holes at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie.
The Mountain Cats, who came in ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region, sit at 37-over par 613 to place them firmly in the top half of the 20-team field and just three strokes behind third place Charleston (WV).
Eli Ropietski fired a 1-over par 73 to conclude the day at 6-over par, tying him with two other players for 13th. Justin Scally, who was tied for 11th after day one, shot a 7-over 79 to finish day two tied for 24th with two others. Both Ropietski and Scally are two of seven players thus far who have recorded an eagle.
Mario Battaglia shot 6-over par 78 in round two to tie for 29th at 11-over par. Mauricio Hernandez also carded a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 40th at 12-over par. Lucas Smith is in 62nd after turning in a 7-over 79 in round two.
After an 11-over par 299 in round one, Gannon shot a 1-over 289 to wrap the day in first place. The top three teams will advance to the national finals in Florida. Aidan Talent, of Davis & Elkins, maintained his individual lead with a 1-over par 73 to close the day at 3-under par for the tournament.
The final round of the regional is scheduled for Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown is set to tee-off successively beginning at 12:40 p.m. with Eli Ropietski.
