Rome Alvarez wrestled back to lock up a spot in the third round of the consolation after the opening day of the 2026 NCAA Women's Wrestling Regional Championships at West Liberty University ASRC in West Liberty, W.Va.
Wrestling is scheduled to continue at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Championship semifinals, Consolation Third round, Consolation Semifinals, and the Place Matches (1
st, 3
rd, and 5
th-place).
Lehigh (63 points) holds a slim two-point lead over Ursinus (61 points), while Lock Haven (57 points), Eastern (52.5 points), and West Liberty (48.5 points) round out the top five in the 18-team field after day one. In its first season as a varsity sport, Pitt-Johnstown sits in ninth-place with 31.5 points.

After a first-round bye at 117 lbs., second-seeded Humphries defeated Cedar Crest's Andi Bibeau, 8-4, to reach the semifinals where she will take on third-seeded Josey Wehr (Eastern)
At 131 lbs., fourth-seeded Paclib cruised into the semis with a 10-0 technical fall at 1:12 over 13
th-seeded Kaleia Timko (Arcadia) and an 11-0 tech fall at 3:25 over fifth-seeded Gianna Amendola (East Stroudsburg). Paclib will take on Lehigh's top-seeded Aubre Krazer on Saturday.
Hoppe, seeded third at 145 lbs., used a pair of pins to earn her spot in the semifinals. Hoppe pinned 14
th-seeded Riley Lynch (Muhlenburg) :53 into the opening period, then won by fall at 5:31 over 11
th-seeded Grace O'Korn (West Liberty) in the quarterfinals. Hoppe will wrestle second-seeded Cloe Charlesworth (Ursinus) in the semis.
Fifth-seeded Alvarez (124 lbs.) bounced back from an opening round loss to win her next two bouts and advance to Saturday's consolation semifinals. Alvarez followed up an 11-1 technical fall over Gannon's Zoe Gaetzens with a 10-0 tech fall at 3:29 over sixth-seeded Olivia Palmer (East Stroudsburg) to stay alive to face Penn State-Altoona's seventh-seeded Richele Reyes.
Pitt-Johnstown's
Janayah Nobles, seeded 13
th at 138 lbs., posted a 1-2 record, but was eliminated with a 12-1 technical fall loss to No. 6 Paisley Fox (Ursinus) in the second round of the consolations.
Leah Shoemaker wrestled at 110 lbs., for the Mountain Cats and was 0-2.
