
Pitt-Johnstown rising sophomore
Rome Alvarez (124 lbs.) made history by becoming the Mountain Cats' first wrestler, male or female, to secure a spot on a World Team when she made Puerto Rico's squad at the U23 Championships in late April.

Alvarez will represent Puerto Rico on the international stage at the 2026 Pan American Games in Peru, June 11
th -13
th, and the U-23 World Championships in Las Vegas, Oct. 12-18.
Alvarez posted a 22-13 overall record and a 2-2 mark in dual meets with eight decisions, seven technical falls, and seven falls as a true freshman in Pitt-Johnstown's inaugural season of women's wrestling. Alvarez was the runner-up at the Pennsylvania Collegiate Tournament in East Stroudsburg on Jan. 24, and placed fifth at the NCAA Regional Tournament in West Liberty, W.Va. on Feb.21.
