Lady Cats Cruise to 103-73 Win at Mansfield

The Lady Cats hit 13 3-pointers and outscored Mansfield University by 20 points over the final 14 minutes of the first half to build a 12-point halftime advantage in a 103-73 victory over the Mounties on Saturday.  Jasmine Harper's 25 points and 10 rebounds led Pitt-Johnstown, which closed out the first semester with a 5-6 record.
 
Mansfield ran out to a 17-9 lead six minutes into the game on a Katie Fitzpatrick lay-up, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with a 9-0 run over the next 2:47 to regain the lead by two on Nicole Carman's 3-pointer.
 
Alyssa DeRichie's jumper helped the Mounties rebuilt their advantage to 26-19 with just under nine minutes left in the first half, but it was all Lady Cats the rest of the way.
 
After Olivia Rizzo connected on a 3-pointer that tied it at 32 at the four minute mark, the Lady Cats outscored Mansfield 19-7 the rest of the half.
 
Harper's lay-up and free-throw gave Pitt-Johnstown a 37-34 lead a few minutes later, before Kelsey Sleighter hit a 3-pointer with time running out to put the Lady Cats in front 51-39 at the break.
 
Pitt-Johnstown never looked back and quickly extended it to 65-47 three minutes into the second half on another Sleighter 3-pointer.
 
Jena Matter's bucket at 14:32 got the Mounties' deficit down to 14 but the Lady Cats pushed it out to 92-62 on Olivia Rizzo's conventional 3-point play at the seven-minute mark on their way to the 30-point win.
 
Harper's 25 points and 10 rebounds led four Lady Cats who scored in double figures.  Carman had 16 points and five rebounds, and Leah Hansen scored 15 points and dished out seven assists.  Sleighter made four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, while Rizzo chipped-in eight points and six rebounds of the Pitt-Johnstown bench.
 
Rachel Johnson pulled down six rebounds to give her 510 for her career and move her to within five of Jody Billingsley (1990-94) for 23rd on the Lady Cat All-Time Rebounding List.
 
The Lady Cats, which dominated the glass 49-30, ended the day shooting a season-best 55.9 (38-68) from the floor, including 13-32 from behind the 3-pint line.  Pitt-Johnstown also hit 14 of it 15 free-throws.  Mansfield shot 42.6% (29-68) from the field, but just 1-7 from 3-point range and just 14-29 from the charity stripe.
 
Matter's 18 points and six rebounds paced Mansfield.  Fitzpatrick tallied 14 points and six rebounds, and DeRichie netted 12 points in the loss for the Mounties, which dropped to 0-11 on the season.
 
The Lady Cats will break for the holiday season before traveling to Lock Haven University on January 3 and Bloomsburg University on January 4.  The Lady Cats will then host a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against East Stroudsburg University on January 8 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
