Mountain Cats Sweep Alderson-Broaddus
04/13/13... (Game 1) (Game 2) After taking the opener 5-3 over Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday at Point Stadium,
Nate Negri (Huntingdon, Pa.) belted a three-run homeer to highlight a five-run fifth inning to help the Mountain Cats complete the sweep with a 6-5 win in the nightcap. Pitt-Johnstown is now 19-15 overall and 10-12 in the WVIAC Northern Division.
In game one, the Battlers cut it to 3-2 in the top of the fourth, but
Matt McMillen(Johnstown, Pa.) scored on a passed ball and
Mike Palkovitz (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) drove home
Negri with a base hit in the bottom of the frame to set the final at 5-3.
Palkovitz finished with two hits and an RBI, while
McMillen added a pair of base hits.
Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.),
Zach Vignero (Johnstown, Pa.), and
Matt McGee (Beech Creek, Pa.) also collected an RBI each.
John Fees (Carrolltown, Pa.) improved to 4-3 after allowing two runs on four hits over the first four innings.
Kody Reighard (Salix, Pa.) surrendered a run in two innings, and
Nate Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first save.
In game two,
Negri's three-run homer in the five-run fifth erased a 2-1 Mountain Cat deficit, before Pitt-Johnstown was able to hold on for the one-run victory.
Negri was 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI, and
Palkovitz and Jake
Warner (Dillsburg, Pa.) each chipped-in a pair of hits.
Drew Ebersole (Martinsburg, Pa.),
Vignero, and
McGee also drove in runs for Pitt-Johnstown.
Derek Younker (Big Cove Tannery, Pa.) picked up the win and raised his record to 5-4.
Younker pitched the first 6 1/3 innings and gave up five runs (4 earned) on nine hits.
Plummer got the final two outs with runners on base to secure his second save of the day.
With the losses, Alderson-Broaddus dropped to 15-18 overall and 10-14 in the WVIAC North.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps-up the series against the Battlers with a nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium, before traveling to Davis & Elkins (WV) College for a WVIAC doubleheader on Wednesday.
