Baseball Suffers 3-2 Loss to Mercy

Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) and Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.) each had two hits, but Mercy (NY) College scored a late run and held off the Mountain Cats, 3-2, Thursday night in Fort Pierce, Fla. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 4-6.
Morrow had two singles, while Rubal added a pair of hits, including a double. Matt Whiteman (North Huntingdon, Pa.) drove in a run for the Mountain Cats.
C.J. Gahagan (Martinsburg, Pa.) suffered the loss after giving up a run on two hits in two innings in relief of starter Derek Younker (Big Cover Tannery, Pa.). Younker pitched the first six innings and surrendered two runs (1 earned) on four hits. He also struck out two and walked two.
The Mountain Cats wrap-up the trip to Florida with a doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday at 10 a.m., before traveling to West Virginia State University on Tuesday. Pitt-Johnstown will open the 2011 home schedule with a doubleheader against Lake Erie (OH) College on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
