Mountain Cats Drop Series Finale to Seton Hill

Seton Hill University built an 8-0 after six innings, before holding off the Mountain Cats, 8-5, Sunday afternoon at the Point Stadium to sweep the three-game WVIAC Northern Division series. Scott Zubik (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Nick Barbera (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Zach Martin (Irwin, Pa.) all had two hits and an RBI for Pitt-Johnstown, which fell to 10-18 overall and 6-8 in the WVIAC.
Nick Erminio was hit by the first pitch of the game and eventually came around to score on a two-out Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) balk to give Seton Hill a 1-0 lead. The Griffins scored five more in the second. Josh Logan had an RBI single, and Brendan Costantino and Tom DeAngelis each followed with two run base hits.
In the sixth inning, DeAngelis singled to left center to drive in Erminio and Pat Kohl to make it 8-0.
The Mountain Cats answered with five in the seventh. Zubik had an RBI infield single, before Seth Roy (Bedford, Pa.) and Zubik scored on a throwing error by Erminio. Zach Martin and Andy Rubal (Johnstown, Pa.) then had run producing singles to cut the deficit to three.
However, Brian Warheit pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to seal the win for the Griffins.
Kyle Morrow (McVeytown, Pa.) added two hits, and Rubal drove in a run for Pitt-Johnstown.
Moore got the start for the Mountain Cats and allowed eight runs on seven hits in six innings to fall to 1-2. Moore also struck out six, walked five and hit three Seton Hill hitters. Derek Younker (Big Cover Tannery, Pa.) pitched the final three innings for Pitt-Johnstown and didn't allow a run on four hits.
Brad Schnelle earned the win for the Griffins after scattering seven hits in six shutout innings.
DeAngelis went 3-for-5 with four RBI to lead Seton Hill, which improved to 21-5 overall and 16-0 in the WVIAC North.
The Mountain Cats travel to the University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC doubleheader on Wednesday, before hosting a three-game WVIAC Northern Division series against Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Point Stadium.
