Lady Cats Shutout Ohio Valley 4-0 to Start Kick-Off Classic

The Lady Cat soccer team scored three first half goals and added one more in the second half en route to a 4-0 victory over WVIAC foe Ohio Valley (WV) University in Saturday's first round of the Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic. Brittney Miller (Slippery Rock, Pa.) scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Lady Cats. Pitt-Johnstown is now 1-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats opened up a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Kristin Kelly (Bethel Park, Pa.) put Pitt-Johnstown up 1-0 two minutes into the match on a rebound goal off of the post. Freshman Lindsey Roessler (Chalfont, Pa.) extended the lead to 2-0 off of Alicia Zack's (Irwin, Pa.) through ball 14 minutes later, before the Lady Cats finished the first half scoring on Miller's rebound blast off of a direct kick.
Pitt-Johnstown, which outshot OhioValley 35-1, added an insurance goal in the 69th minute. Freshman Stephanie Szczur (Johnstown, Pa.) set the final at 4-0 when she took Miller's cross and found the back of the net with 16 minutes to play.
Lady Cat goalkeeper Stephanie Paha (Slickville, Pa.) saw just one shot and didn't have to make a save to earn the win and improve to 1-1-0. Ohio Valley's Abbi Menear faced 35 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made 12 saves, but suffered the loss and dropped oto 0-4-0.
With the loss, Ohio Valley fell to 0-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Pitt-Johnstown will finish the 2009 Lady Cat Kick-Off Classic on Monday against Lincoln University at 2 p.m. at Richland High School.
