Lady Cat Soccer Defeats Ohio Valley For First Win

The Lady Cat soccer team got goals from Lisa Mix (Framingham, MA) and Jackie Becerra (Saddle Brook, NJ) to build a 2-1 halftime lead, before adding three more in the second half to secure a 5-1 win at Ohio Valley (WV) University in Wednesday's WVIAC opener. Pitt-Johnstown picked-up its first win of the year and improved to 1-4-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference-play.
Mix opened the scoring off of Becerra's assist 52 seconds into the match. Two minutes later, Mix assisted on Becerra's goal to make it 2-0.
Ohio Valley answered in the 21st minute when Amanda Simpson found the back of the net behind Lady Cat goalkeeper Timi Shiock (Punxsutawney, Pa.).
The score remained the same until the 63rd minute. That's when Pitt-Johnstown put it away with goals by Kelsey Richardson (Scottdale, Pa.), Elizabeth Steffen (Halifax, Pa.), and Emily Brady (Donegal, Pa.) over the final 28 minutes to set the final at 5-1.
Shiock played the first 48 minutes in goal to earn her first collegiate victory. Shiock allowed one goal and made one save. Victoria Der Vanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) played the final 42 minutes in net and didn't have to make a save.
With the loss, Ohio Valley fell to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats travel to Concord (WV) University for a WVIAC match on Saturday, before hosting a conference match against West Virginia Wesleyan College as part of a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats. Kick-off for the women's match is set for 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
