Women's Soccer Shuts Out Ohio Valley, 2-0

09/14/2010

Jackie Becerra (Saddle Brook, NJ) and Hannah LaSota (Patton, Pa.) each netted second half goals to lead the Lady Cat soccer team to a 2-0 home shutout victory over WVIAC rival Ohio Valley (WV) University, Tuesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 1-3-0 overall and evened its record at 1-1-0 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half, Becerra took a rebound off of Lindsey Roessler's (Chalfont, Pa.) corner kick and found the back of the net to give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
Pitt-Johnstown added an insurance goal following another corner kick six minutes later. LaSota's blast off of a clearing attempt by the Fighting Scots got by goalkeeper Abbi Menear to increase the lead to 2-0.
That's all Lady Cat goalkeeper Victoria DerVanik (Bridgeville, Pa.) would need. DerVanik earned the shutout after making five saves and improved to 1-3-0.
Ohio Valley, which was held to just seven shots, fell to 0-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats host a non-conference match against Lake Erie (OH) College on Thursday at 4 p.m. and a WVIAC match against Concord (WV) University on Saturday at noon, before wrapping-up a four-match homestand againt Saint Vincent College for Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Wednesday, Setpember 22 at 4 p.m.
