Seven Baseball Players Named To All-WVIAC Teams; DelSignore, Plummer Garner First Team Honors

Seven Mountain Cat baseball players were named to 2008 All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Teams, including seniors Dan DelSignore (Johnstown, Pa.) and Adam Plummer (Bellwood, Pa.), who were named to the First Team when the teams were released on Thursday. Voting for the 2008 All-WVIAC baseball teams was done by the leagues 15 head coaches.
Plummer, an outfielder/designated hitter who has been nominated for the Daktronics All-Region Team, currently leads the Mountain Cats in hitting at .400 (54-135) and on-base percentage (.497). He is tied for second on the team with 34 RBIs, while his 16 doubles rank fourth and his 54 hits, 32 runs and 80 total bases rank fifth on the team. DelSignore is third on the team in batting average (.367 66-180), homeruns (5) homeruns and RBIs (32). DelSignore, an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America and Daktronics All-Region nominee, leads the WVIAC in hit-by-pitch (14). He is also second in the conference in doubles (18), fourth in runs (49) and fifth in total bases (103), hits (66) and doubles per game.
Freshman starting pitcher Jon Moore (Leechburg, Pa.) and junior closer Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) earned spots on the All-WVIAC Second Team. Both Moore and Faint have been nominated for the Daktronics All-Region Team. Moore has posted a perfect 6-0 record and a 3.00 E.R.A. in 42 inning-pitched. He also has 31 strikeouts. Moore's six victories ranked fifth in the WVIAC. Faint is 2-1 with a team-best eight saves in 35.1 innings-pitched. Faint leads the Mountain Cats in E.R.A. (2.55), appearances (20), and opponent's batting average (.198).
Pitchers Chuck Boring (Dilltown, Pa.) and David Huey (Glen Campbell, Pa.) and first baseman Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) were all Honorable Mention All-WVIAC selections. Boring has a 3-3 record and 4.82 E.R.A. in 37.1 innings of work. Boring is second on the team in both strikeouts (43) and opponent's batting average (.215). Huey is 6-2 with a 4.61 E.R.A. in 54.2 innings-pitched. Huey has started a team-high 10 games and has recorded 32 strikeouts. Hanley, a Daktronics All-Region nominee and the current WVIAC Co-Player of the week, leads the Mountain Cats in homeruns (12) and RBIs (54). He is second in slugging percentage (.683) and third in both hits (58) and doubles (16). Hanley also ranks fourth on the team in batting average (.360) and runs (41).
Pitt Johnstown will host the 2008 WVIAC Conference Tournament with an automatic berth to the NCAA North Atlantic Regional Tournament on the line this weekend at George R. Walter Field and Johnstown's Point Stadium.
