Paul Pentz Named ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District II For Third Straight Year

Pitt Johnstown senior catcher Paul Pentz (Johnstown, Pa.) has been named First Team 2007 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division Baseball for the third consecutive year when this year's team was announced on Thursday. Pentz, along with 10 other members of the District II First Team, will move on to the national ballot for the chance to earn Academic All-America honors.
Pentz, a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School, has a 3.91 overall G.P.A. in Electrical Engineering Technology.
Pentz, a First Team All-WVIAC selection in 2007, started 32 of Pitt Johnstown's 38 games this season. He finished fifth on the team in hitting at .360 (36-100). He was also fourth on the team in runs batted-in (21), doubles (6) and runs scored (22) and sixth in hits (36). Pentz also had two homeruns and two triples.
Pentz, who earned this year's Pitt Johnstown Lowell Shaffer Student-Athlete Award, is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He also received the WVIAC Male Student-Athlete Award in March.
Joining Pentz on this year's Academic All-District II First Team include: pitchers Sam Mann (Washington & Jefferson) and Chris Brower (York), infielders Gary Miller (Ramapo), Jonas Fester (Johns Hopkins), Chris Varacallo (Washington & Jefferson) and Tommy Herrmann (Ursinus), outfielders Rob Pietroforte (Johns Hopkins), Jeff Craig (Kutztown) and Jeff Botti (College of New Jersey) and designated hitter Joe Bonyai (Gettysburg).
The members of the College Sports Information Directors' of America (CoSIDA) selected to Academic All-District Teams.
The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division II colleges and universities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia

To be nominated for the Academic All-America Program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point-average and be a starter of significant reserve.
