Lady Cats Fall 82-73 in Overtime to #17 Bloomsburg

2195For the second time in as many nights and the fifth time this season, the Lady Cats went into overtime.  This time, Kelsey' Sleighter's late 3-pointer forced the extra period, but 17th-ranked Bloomsburg build a six-point lead with a minute left and went on to deal Pitt-Johnstown an 82-73 PSAC Crossover loss, Wednesday night in the Sports Center.  Nicole Carman scored 16 points for the Lady Cats, who slipped to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC Western Division.
 
In a close first half, the Lady Cats were able to open-up three six-point leads on the 17th-ranked team in the country.
 
After Bloomsburg took its only lead of the first half at 9-8, Pitt-Johnstown got back-to-back 3-pointers from Kayla DeCriscio and a pair of free-throws from Olivia McCabe to go up 21-15 at the :38 mark.
 
Jocelyn Ford's basket cut the Huskies' deficit to four on Bloomsburg's next possession, but a bucket from McCabe got the Pitt-Johnstown lead right back out to six.
 
The Huskies the used a quick 8-3 spurt to narrow the gap to 26-25 on Taylor Maldonado's 3-pointer, before five straight points from Carman pushed the Lady Cat lead back out to 31-25 at 2:25.
 
Two late free-throws from Olivia Rizzo pushed it back out to five, but Bloomsburg got a rebound and put-back from Adreana Sadowski as time expired to get the Huskies to within three at 36-33 at the half.
 
Bloomsburg opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 39-36 lead on Marla Simmons' lay-up.
 
It see-sawed back-and-forth the rest of the way.  The Huskies outscored the Lady Cats 8-2 over a span of three minutes to build a 67-60 advantage with 3:06 to play, but Pitt-Johnstown battled back to tie it at 68 and force overtime on Sleigher's 3-pointer with 36 seconds remaining.
 
However, Bloomsburg got a 3-pointer from Ford 1:44 into the overtime that put the Huskies in the lead for good.  Bloomsburg increased it to 79-73 on Maldonado's 3-pointer at the one-minute mark and went on to hold off the Lady Cats by nine.
 
Carman scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Sleighter finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.  Jasmine Harper had 14 points and nine rebounds, and McCabe added eight points and three rebounds off the bench for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Nicole Carman currently ranks 31st on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,039 points and 20th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Rebounding List with 576.  Harper ranks 30th on the all-time rebounding list with 454 rebounds.
 
Pitt-Johnstown shot 40.6% (26-64) from the field, but just 9-26 from 3-point range and 12-18 from the free-throw line.  Bloomsburg shot 44.6% (33-74), including 5-11 from behind the 3-point line.  The Huskies were also 11-19 from the charity stripe.
 
Marla Simmons had a game-high 28 points and seven rebounds, and Maldonado collected 19 points to lead Bloomsburg, which improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the PSAC East.
 
The Lady Cats close out the first semester with a PSAC Crossover game at East Stroudsburg on Saturday.  After breaking for the holiday season, Pitt-Johnstown will travel to PSAC games at West Chester on January 3 and Cheyney on December 4, before hosting a conference doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Millersville on January 7.
