#16 UNC-Pembroke Sweeps Mountain Cats in Season-Opener

Sixteenth-ranked University of North Carolina-Pembroke jumped out to early leads in both games of a 15-0 and 10-2 sweep over the Mountain Cats in Pitt-Johnstown's 2014 season-opener Sunday afternoon in Pembroke, N.C.
 
In the opener, the Braves raced out to a 10-0 lead after three innings, en route to the 15-0 victory.
 
Nate Negri had two hits, and Jake Stern added a single to account for the Mountain Cats only other base hit.
 
John Fees took the loss after surrendering 10 runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings on the mound.
 
In the nightcap, UNC-Pembroke built an 8-0 advantage after two innings and went on to defeat Pitt-Johnstown 10-2.
 
Jake Warner had three hits, while Kyle Morrow singled twice and drove in a run.  Mike Palkovitz and Stern each had two hits, including a double.
 
Derek Younker slipped to 0-1 after allowing eight runs on 10 hits in four innings.
 
The Mountain Cats wrap-up the three-game series at UNC-Pembroke on Monday, before traveling to Shepherd (WV) University for a doubleheader on Saturday.
