Box Score 2 Pitt-Johnstown rallied for a 4-2 win over Clarion University in Friday's PSAC West doubleheader opener at Point Stadium, before
Derek Younker threw a complete-game shutout to help the Mountain Cats finish the sweep with a 1-0 victory in game two. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 8-13 overall and 3-3 in conference-play.
In game one, Pitt-Johnstown erased a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the fifth and more in the sixth in a 4-2 victory.
Matt McGhee's triple to center field got the Mountain Cats' rally started in the fifth.
Brett Marabito followed with an RBI single up the middle. Two batters later,
Ernesto Rizzitano's infield hit plated Marabito, before Marabito scored from third on a double steal.
Pitt-Johnstown added one more in the sixth on
Nate Negri's bases loaded infield single that chased home
Jake Warner.
Marabito went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Rizzitano and Negri each had RBI singles for the Mountain Cats.
John Fees tossed the first six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits to improve to 3-4.
Ryan Socol pitched a perfect seventh to earn his third save of the year.
In the nightcap, McGhee's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second was all Younker needed in the 1-0 win.
Younker, who needed just 68 pitches in the complete-game effort, scattered five hits, fanned one, and did not allow a walk on his way to evening his record at 3-3.
Warner had a double, and
Dillon Boyer,
Jake Stern, and McGhee collected the four Pitt-Johnstown hits.
With the losses, Clarion fell to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps-up the four-game PSAC series against Clarion University with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium, before traveling to California University (PA) for another conference doubleheader on Tuesday.Â
