After suffering a 10-2 setback in Saturday's PSAC West opener at California (PA), the Mountain Cats exploded for 20 runs and 26 hits, including a pair of homeruns from
Mason Prickett and one from
Mike Palkovitz, to earn the split with a 20-8 victory. Pitt-Johnstown is now 7-33-1 overall and 7-16-1 in conference-play.

In the opener, California (PA) broke open a tie game with five runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning en route to the 10-2 victory.

The Vulcans to an early 2-0 lead, but Pitt-Johnstown answered to tie in the third inning on Palkovitz's two run double down the right field line that chased home
Ernesto Rizzitano and
Nate Negri.

However, California (PA) went on to outscore the Mountain Cats 8-0 the rest of the way.

Palkovitz went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for Pitt-Johnstown, while Negri and Rizzitano each had two hits.Â
Nico Pecora added a double for the Mountain Cats in the loss.

Ryan Socol took the loss on the mound for Pitt-Johnstown after surrendering nine earned runs on seven hits in three innings. Tyler black pitched the final three innings and held the Vulcans to just one runs on two hits.

In the nightcap, Pitt-Johnstown scored 10 runs in the second innings and tacked on seven more in the fourth in the 20-8 win.

Prickett finished 4-for-5 with a homer, a double and seven RBI, and Palkovitz had three hits, including a homerun, and three RBI to lead the Mountain Cats.Â
Dillon Boyer and
Jake Stern also collected three hits apiece, while Negri had two hits and three RBI, and
Luke Williams had two hits and a pair of RBI. Pitt-Johnstown also got two RBI each from
Sean Sleigh and Rizzitano in the lopsided victory.

Shane Supanick picked-up the win in relief of starter
Ken Gault. Supanick held California (PA) scoreless on just two hits in 2.1 innings. Gault allowed seven earned runs on seven hits over the first 3.2 innings.

With the split, the Vulcans are now 19-19 overall and 13-11 in the PSAC West.

The Mountain Cats travel to Slippery Rock on Friday, before closing out the 2015 season against The Rock with a Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Point Stadium.Â
