#13 Central Oklahoma Eliminates #6 Wrestlers from National Duals With 33-10 Win

4862After suffering an opening round loss to No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney, the sixth-ranked Mountain Cats faced 13th-ranked Central Oklahoma in the First Round of the Consolations of the 2018 of the NCAA Division II National Wrestling Duals, Thursday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.  The Bronchos turned a four-point lead midway through the match into a 33-10 victory to eliminate Pitt-Johnstown from the tournament.  The Mountain Cats are now 5-3 on the season.
 
Central Oklahoma climbed out to an 8-0 lead with major decision victories in the first two bouts.  Elijah Hale dealt Brendan Howard 9-0 loss at 125 lbs., and Blake Dauphin shut out Sam Holandez, 10-0, at 133 lbs.
 
Fifth-ranked Chris Eddins cut the Mountain Cats' deficit in half with his 14-2 major decision win over Rio Zamora at 141 lbs., before the Bronchos increased their lead to 11-4 after No. 7 Will Steltzlen defeated Triston Law, 6-2, at 149 lbs.

After second-ranked Cody Law used a third-period takedown to hold off No. 7 Bryan Dutton, 6-5, at 157 lbs., Central Oklahoma quickly regained control with three straight bonus point wins.  At 165 lbs., Mason Thompson pinned Devin Austin in the first period, and 11th-ranked Miguel Barreras followed with a 9-1 major decision over Tony Welsh at 174 lbs.  The Bronchos then got a fall from Joel Dixon at 3:41 over Nate Claar in the 184-lb. bout to increase the lead to 27-7 and seal the victory.
 
Seventh-ranked Levi Niebauer snapped the Central Oklahoma streak with a solid 8-2 decision over Colton Looper at 197 lbs., but the Bronchos closed it out with another fall.  This time sixth-ranked Caleb Cotter pinned D.J. Sims at 1:59 to set the final at 33-10.

With the win, Central Oklahoma improved to 4-1.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Lake Erie (OH) on January 12 and to Seton Hill on January 16, before hosting Wheeling Jesuit (WV) on January 20 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
