Men and Women’s Soccer to Close Out Home Schedules on Wednesday

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's soccer teams will close out their 2021 home schedules on Wednesday at Richland High School  The Pitt-Johnstown women will take on Indiana (PA) at 10:30 a.m., before Mountain Cat men will host 16th-ranked Gannon at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Pitt-Johnstown men, 1-10-1 overall and 0-6-0 in the PSAC West under Coach Eric Kinsey, will close out its 2021 home schedule against Gannon. The Mountain Cats suffered an 8-1 Senior Day loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday.  Andrew Jeffrey scored the Pitt-Johnstown goal.
 
Gannon, ranked 16th nationally under second-year Coach Billy Colton, improved to 12-1-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference-play following Saturday's 1-0 home win over California (PA).  Joe Knox's goal in the sixth minute proved to be the lone goal of the match.
 
Pitt-Johnstown traveled to Erie on October 9 and suffered a 1-0 setback to then No. 17 ranked Gannon.  Knox's penalty kick goal at the 11:30 mark of the opening half proved to be the match-winner for the Golden Knights.
 
The Mountain Cats finish the 2021 season with road matches at California (PA) on Saturday, at Slippery Rock next Wednesday, and at Seton Hill on Nov. 6.
 
 
Pitt-Johnstown, which wraps-up its home schedule on Wednesday, fell to 4-10-1 overall and 3-9-1 in the PSAC West after a 2-1 home loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday.  Emily Esser's penalty kick goal in the eighth minute gave the Mountain Cats a lead, but the Lakers scored a pair of goals to secure the win.
 
Adel Heder's (20th season) IUP squad have lost its last two matches and comes in at 7-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in conference-play.  The Crimson Hawks suffered a 2-0 home loss to Gannon last Wednesday and a 2-0 loss at Slippery Rock on Saturday.
 
IUP holds a 7-3 advantage in the series that dates back to 2008.  Pitt-Johnstown has won two of the last three, but on Sept. 25, the Crimson Hawks earned a 5-3 win in Indiana.  Hannah Scardina scored four of the five IUP goals, while Lydia Roman, Esser, and Haley Neidig netted the Pitt-Johnstown goals.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to California (PA) for a PSAC West match on Saturday, before closing out the 2021 season at Edinboro next Wednesday.
