Mitch Jeffe shot a two-day total of 147 to tie for 13th and pace the Mountain Cat golfers to an eight-place finish at Friday and Saturday's Mercyhurst University Fall Invitational at Erie's Whispering Woods Golf Club.
Charleston's (WV) Mitch Hoffman fired a three-over par to earn medalist honors, but Gannon won the team championship by seven shots over Golden Eagles.
After opening the tournament with a two-over 74 on Friday, Jeffe shot a 75 on Saturday to tie for 13th. Justin Scally tied for 34th (74, 79, 153), while
Mario Battaglia tied for 37th following his career best 76 on Friday and 78 on Saturday. Freshman Sal Cerilli shot 81 and 76 in his first collegiate tournament, and
Brendan Villnave also finished with an 81 and a 76 to join Cerilli in a tie for 45th-place.
Gannon's two-day +7 (583) was good enough for a seven stroke victory over Charleston's +14 (590) to claim the title in the 12-team field. Mercyhurst was third (+17, 593), Goldey-Beacom (DE) was fourth (+19, 595), and West Chester, Indiana (PA), and West Liberty )WV) all tied for fifth (+23, 599). The Mountain Cats finished eighth at +34 (610).
Pitt-Johnstown competes in the Gannon Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday , before traveling to the Daivis & Elkins (WV) Invitational on September 27 and 28.
