
Andy Zuchelli collected a career-high 20 points to pair with six assists and four steals to help Pitt-Johnstown snap a four-game skid with a commanding 91-60 victory over Bloomsburg on Monday night.
The Mountain Cats improved to 3-6 (1-2 PSAC) and picked up their first conference win. Freshman Vinnie Cugini notched a career-high with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting. Andrew Shull drilled four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Gavin Headings had 12 points and six rebounds, while Ryan Smith contributed 10 points and a team-high eight boards.
Pitt-Johnstown never trailed after carving out a 10-2 lead in the opening three minutes with the assistance of two 3-pointers from Shull. That lead expanded to 23-7 thanks to another three from Shull at the 12:11 mark of the first half.
The Mountain Cats showcased their defensive prowess by forcing 23 turnovers and turning those miscues into 29 points. They also restricted the Huskies to just 42% from the field and a season-worst 12% (3 for 25) from beyond the arc.
Smith's steal and subsequent layup as time expired on the half provided Pitt-Johnstown with a 42-33 lead at the break. A dunk by Headings 15 seconds into the second half ignited an extended 25-11 run that spanned seven minutes and put the Mountain Cats handily in front, 67-44.
The lead did not shrink to less than 26 the rest of the way and a free throw from Nick Watts with 3:23 remaining increased the margin to as large as 38 at 89-51.
Jake Nelson totaled a team-best 13 points and nine rebounds for the Huskies, who slipped to 2-7 (0-3 PSAC).
The Mountain Cats host East Stroudsburg on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. tip-off in the final game before an extended Christmas break.
