Basketball Teams to Host Seton Hill in Wednesday’s Regular Season Finale

The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will close out the 2023-24 regular season with PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Seton Hill, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center.  The women's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., before the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
 
Head Coach Mike Drahos' and the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 15-12 overall and 10-11 in the PSAC entering Wednesday evening's regular season finale, need a victory to keep their PSAC Tournament hopes alive.  The Mountain Cats, who trail Seton Hill by a half game for the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament, suffered a 58-34 loss at No. 4/5 Gannon on Saturday.  Peyton Alazaus scored nine points and was 6-6 from the line to lead Pitt-Johnstown.
 
OliviaFasick currently stands in 23rd-place on the Pitt-Johnstown Scoring List with 1,186 points and is tied with Sally Mosay (1984-88) for fifth-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Assists List with 513.  Alazaus is currently 35th on the scoring list with 1,047 points and six 3-pointers shy of tying Kelsey Sleighter's (2011-15) Pitt-Johnstown career-record of 199.
 
Seton Hill, under first-year Head Coach Maeve Gallagher, has lost its last three games and comes in at 13-13 overall and 10-10 in conference-play.  The Griffins are coming off of a 71-68 loss to Edinboro on Saturday.  Christiane Frye scored 16 points, while Hallie Cowan had 14 points and six rebounds, and Helene Cowan chipped-in a dozen points.  Seton Hill also suffered an 87-65 setback at IUP last Wednesday.  Following Wednesday's game against the Mountain Cats, the Griffins will end their regular season against Gannon on Saturday.
 
Since first meeting during the 2007-08 season, Seton Hill holds a slim, 18-15, advantage in the series.  The Mountain Cats had won four straight and six of the last seven meetings until the Griffins secured a 79-67 victory in Greensburg on Jan. 29.  Cassidy Crawford scored a game-high 21 points, while Alazaus and Hayden Taylor added 13 and 11 points, respectively to lead Pitt-Johnstown.  Frye scored 19 points, Cowan had 16 points, and Abby Mankins tallied 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Seton Hill.
 
Head Coach Bob Rukavina and the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 6-21 overall and 4-17 in the PSAC, will close out the 2023-24 season against Seton Hill.  The Mountain Cats are coming off of a 117-91 conference loss at #5/4 Gannon on Saturday.  Gavin Headings had 20 points and five rebounds, and Will Kromka and Nick Watts each collected 17 points and seven boards to lead five Pitt-Johnstown players who scored in double figures.  Vinnie Cugini and Elijah Sechler also had 13 and 10 points, respectively for the Mountain Cats.
 
Seton Hill, under second-year Head Coach Ben Wilkins, has won its last two games and comes in at 15-11 overall and 10-10  in the PSAC following Saturday's, 81-60, home victory over Edinboro.  The Griffins were led by Caleb Whitaker's 15 points an seven rebounds and Jimmy Moon's 14 points and five rebounds.  Last Wednesday, Sean Dillon had 14 points to guide three double figures scorers in a 72-70 win at Indiana (PA).
 
Since first meeting on Dec. 8, 2006, Pitt-Johnstown holds a 26-10 lead in the series.  The Mountain Cats have won five of the last seven meetings, but the Griffins earned an 85-70 victory in the last meeting on Jan. 29 in Greensburg.  Andy Zuchelli's game-high 20 points, including five 3-pointers and Ryan Smith's 16 points paced four Mountain Cats who scored in double figures.  Seton Hill was led by Ryan Meis' 16 points and Whitaker's 15 points and six rebounds.
