Mauricio Hernandez shot a 3-under (69) to sit in a tie for first-place and lead the Mountain Cats golfers to a seven-stroke advantage over Indiana (PA) after Monday's first round of the inaugural Pitt-Johnstown Bedford Springs Invitational.
Hernandez, who is tied with Saint Francis' Nate Godbout for the top spot entering Tuesday's final round, helped the Mountain Cats finish the day at +9, seven stroke better than second-place IUP. Saint Francis (+25), Bloomsburg (+29), West Chester (+38), American International (MA) (+54), and Mountain Aloysius (+55) round ouf the field.
Following Hernandez, four Pitt-Johnstown golfers are within three strokes of each other.
Ethan Webb is tied for fourth at +3 (75),
Eli Ropietski is tied for seventh at +4 (76), while
Justin Scallyis tied for ninth, (+5, 77), and
Tyler Mocello is tied for 11th (+6, 78).
Parker Hilchey (T19, +9, 81),
Mario Battaglia (T28, +12, 84), and
Sal Cerilli (T34, +15, 87).round out the Mountain Cat golfers.
