The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Edinboro, Wednesday evening in the Sports Center. The women will tip-off the doubleheader against the Fighting Scots at 5:30 p.m. with the men's games scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
First-year
Head Coach D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy and the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats come in at 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the PSAC. After Thursday's, 81-80, non-conference win at West Virginia State, the Mountain Cats suffered a, 71-58, setback to begin PSAC West-play at Slippery Rock on Monday.
Belle Bosch had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds, while
Sophia Ott had 11 points, and
Lexi Margolis and
M'laya Ainsworth chipped-in 10 points apiece.
Riley Childress dished out a game-high seven assists for Pitt-Johnstown.
Edinboro, under seventh-year
Head Coach Callie Wheeler, had its three-game winning streak snapped and slipped to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC after an, 83-70, home loss to No.17 Indiana (PA), Monday afternoon.
Hayley Sims' 17 points paced four Fighting Scots who scored in double figures.
Ava Haddad had 14 points,
Morgan Gentile had 11 points and seven rebounds, and
Natalie Angelitti added 10 points and five rebounds.
Last season, the Mountain Cats and Fighting Scots split two PSAC West games. On Jan. 13 in Edinboro,
Cassidy Crawford collected game-highs of 22 points and eight rebounds, and
Olivia Fasick added 21 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown to an 80-65 win. Edinboro answered with an 80-51 victory in the Sports Center on Feb. 10 behind
Gentile's 22 points and
Sims' 21 points. The Mountain Cats got 15 points from
Kylah Franklin and 12 points from Crawford.
Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC, tipped off PSAC West action with a, 90-74, setback at Slippery Rock on Monday.
Ryan Smith scored a team-high 21 points, while
Baden Forup had 20 pints and five rebounds, and
Jay Rose tallied 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds to lead the Mountain Cats.
Smith, who scored 28 points at Shepherd (WV) on Dec. 21 to become Pitt-Johnstown's 35
th 1,000-point scorer, enters the game in 33
rd-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,033 points, one point shy of
Ron Haden (1993-95) for 32
nd-place.
Edinboro, under second-year
Head Coach Justin Jennings, has won three straight games and comes in at 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC following Monday's, 81-65, home victory over Indiana (PA).
Steve Kelly and
Michael Dunn tied for game-high with 22 points apiece to lead the Fighting Scots.
Cenker Evran had 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, and
Daunte Wilcott tallied a dozen points for Edinboro.
Pitt-Johnstown and Edinboro first met during the 1976-77 season. The Fighting Scots hold a 24-17 advantage in the series, but Mountain Cats have won seven of the last eight meetings. In 2023-24, the teams split a pair of games. After suffering a 100-95 loss in Edinboro on Jan. 13, the Mountain Cats answered with an 82-75 victory in the Sports Center on Feb. 10 behind
Nick Watts' game-high 18 points and
Will Kromka's 16 points and seven boards.
Madior Seye had 15 points and eight boards, and
Jack Gallagher chipped-in 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Fighting Scots.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC West games at Clarion on Saturday and to Indiana (PA) next Wednesday, before returning home to host a conference doubleheader against California (PA) on Jan. 18 in the Sports Center.
