
Pitt-Johnstown's
Tamara Humphries won the title at 117 lbs., and
Makayla Paclib (131 lbs.) and
Emma Hoppe (145 lbs.) both finished second to lead a strong Mountain Cat women's wrestling showing at Sunday's 2025 Wilkes Open.
After receiving a first-round bye, Humphries, the No. 1-seed at 117 lbs., coasted into the finals. Humphries won by technical fall in the second round, then pinned McDaniels' Ariana Carnaha at 2:16, before winning by fall at 5:57 over Eastern's Josey Wehr. In the finals, Humphries held off Camryn Gresham (Unattached), 5-2, to become Pitt-Johnstown first women's wrestler to claim a tournament championship.
The Mountain Cats also came away with a pair of second-place finishers in Paclib and Hoppe.
Paclib, the second-seed at 131 lbs., was the runner-up after suffering an 8-2 decision loss to fourth-seeded Anastasia Rodnikova (Wyoming Seminary) in the title bout. Paclib, opened the tournament with a bye, before winning by technical fall in the quarterfinals and pinning Blair Academy's Emma Grimes at 1:50 in the semifinals.


Seeded No. 2 at 145 lbs., Hoppe received an opening round by and won by fall in the second round. Hoppe then won by fall at :37 over Arcadia's Molly Lubenow in the quarters and won a 16-14 decision over Lina Lockard (Unattached) to advance to the finals, where top-seeded Zoey Haines (Eastern) pinned Hoppe at 2:15.
In addition,
Rome Alvarez posted a 5-2 mark with three falls, a decision and a technical fall at 124 lbs., while
Emma Cunningham was 2-2 in the same weight class.
Leah Shoemaker (117 lbs.) and
Isabella Taranto (131 lbs.) were both 0-2 in the tournament.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a dual meet against Bethany (WV) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, then compete in the Baldwin-Wallace (OH) University Open on Sunday.
