JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team fought to a tie at halftime before nationally-ranked Gannon pulled away to hand the Mountain Cats a 75-60 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center.
The Mountain Cats slipped to 6-12 (3-8 PSAC). Pitt-Johnstown welcomed back alumni, family and friends as part of Winterfest Weekend. At halftime of the men's game, both programs honored several representatives as part of the PSAC 75th Anniversary Celebration.
Liv West went 7-for-8 at the free-throw line and finished with a team-high 15 points. Lexi Margolis drilled a team-high three 3-pointers and added 13 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Angel Ezirim tallied 12 points and pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Riley Childress contributed 10 points.
The Mountain Cats quickly recovered from an early 8-0 deficit. They scored 11 of the next 13 points to take an 11-10 advantage on M'laya Ainsworth's layup at the 2:58 mark of the first. A conventional three-point play from West pulled them to within 16-14 by the end of the first.
Much of the second quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Down 27-21, Pitt-Johnstown swung a 9-2 run that was capped by a free throw from Ezirim to take a 30-29 lead. The two teams went into the break tied at 32.
The Golden Knights took control with a 20-7 scoring advantage in the third that put the Mountain Cats in a 50-39 deficit heading into the fourth.
Pitt-Johnstown finished at 35.8% (19 of 53) from the field and 77.3% (17 of 22) from the free-throw line.
Pitt-Johnstown will host Seton Hill at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sports Center.
