Shane Valko's Pitt-Johnstown women's wrestlers battled back from an early deficit to take a four-point lead late, but Penn State Altoona used a forfeit in the final match to edge the Mountain Cats, 20-19, in Pitt-Johnstown's final dual meet of the 2025-26 season, Wednesday evening in Altoona. Pitt-Johnstown closed out its inaugural dual meet season at 1-2.
A forfeit win from Clarissa Long at 103 lbs. and a fall from Naomi Nachmias at 3:25 of the bout at 110 lbs., gave the Lions a quick, 10-0 advantage.
Following a double forfeit at 117 lbs., Penn State Altoona pushed it out to 14-0 when Richelle Reyes secured an 11-0 technical fall victory over
Rome Alvarez.
However, Pitt-Johnstown stormed back with four straight wins of their own. At 131 lbs.,
Makayla Paclib dealt Gianna Slusser a 12-2 technical fall loss, and
Janayah Nobles earned a medical forfeit over Emma Spanik at 138 lbs. to 15-9.
Forfeit wins from
Emma Hoppe (145 lbs.) and
Isabella Taranto (160 lbs.) put Pitt-Johnstown on top, 19-15, but Penn State Altoona's Alyssa Franks got a forfeit in the bout at 180 lbs. to lift the Lions to the one-point victory.
Both teams forfeit at 207 lbs.
With the win, Penn State Altoona improved to 2-10.
Pitt-Johnstown continues its inaugural season at the Ursinus Will Abele Invitational on Jan. 17 and the Pennsylvania Collegiate Tournament in East Stroudsburg on Jan. 24.
