Baseball Sweeps PSU-Beaver in Florida

Josh Campanella's (Allison Park, Pa.) RBI in the ninth inning propelled the Mountain Cat baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Penn State-Beaver, Monday moring in Fort Pierce, FL. Pitt-Johnstown, now 8-2 on the year, completed the sweep with a 16-3 victory in game two.
In the opener, Campanella went 3-for-6 with a triple and the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning to lift the Mountain Cats to the 7-6 win. Matt Hanley (Delmont, Pa.) collected three hits, including a homerun and three RBI, while Matt Petrowsky (Johnstown, Pa.) had three hits, including a double. Matt Staub (Latrobe, Pa.) added a pair of doubles. Eric Faint (Johnstown, Pa.) improved to 2-0 after tossing 2.1 innings in relief of starter Kody Reighard (Salix, Pa.). Faint scattered three hits, struck out two and didn't allow a run. Reichard pitched the first three innings and gave up two runs on two hits.
In the nightcap, Campanella had three more hits, including a double, a triple and two RBI in the 16-3 victory. Drew Shaulis (Somerset, Pa.) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Scott Brown (Lewistown, Pa.) added a double, a triple and an RBI. Freshman right-hander Joe Novotny (Johnstown, Pa.) earned his first collegiate win after surrendering two unearned runs on one hit in four innings of work. Novotny also fanned three. Fellow freshman Alex Naggy (Greensburg, Pa.) pitched two innings in relief and struck out three.
After a day off on Tuesday, The Mountain Cats continue their spring trip in Fort Pierce, FL with a doubleheader against American International (MA) College on Wednesday at noon.
