Women's Soccer Defeats Carlow, 1-0

09/29/2007

Freshman Hailey Coons (Shippensburg, Pa.) broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 53rd minute to lift the Pitt Johnstown women's soccer team to a 1-0 Homecoming Weekend victory over visiting Carlow University, Saturday afternoon. Pitt Johnstown evened its overall record at 5-5-0.
Pitt Johnstown, which outshot Carlow 30-4 for the match and held a 17-2 advantage in shots on-goal, got on the scoreboard when Coons' shot from the right side beat Carlow goalkeeper Allison Nolan and found the far side of the net for what would be the game-winning goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Pryde (Fairhope, Pa.) faced just four shots and made two saves for Pitt Johnstown to earn the shutout and collect her first collegiate win. Nolan faced 30 shots and made 16 saves, but suffered the loss.
With the loss, Carlow dropped to 0-10-0 on the year.

Pitt Johnstown will host Columbia Union (MD) College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as part of the University's 80th Anniversary Celebration and the Inauguration of its Fifth President, Dr. Jem Spectar.
