John Paul Kromka's career-high 27-points wasn't enough, as the Mountain Cats fell at Slippery Rock 87-70 Wednesday night. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock extended their win streak to 11 and improved to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the PSAC West
The Mountain Cats jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, thanks to a Josh Wise Jumper and layups from Caiden Landis and Fred Mulbah. With 17:16 remaining in the first half, Wise hit a 3-pointer to make it 13-7 Pitt-Johnstown.
Slippery Rock to their first lead of the game with 13:02 left in the first half, when Jared Armstrong found an open John Warren II to make it, 18-17. It remained on one possession game, until, an Armstrong layup made it 27-23 Slippery Rock. Nolen Gerald extended the lead to make it 32-23 with 6:36 left in the half.
The Mountain Cats responded to close out the half on a 13-4 run, highlighted by a Fred Mulbah layup as time expired to pull within one point.
Pitt-Johnstown made it 42-42, with 18:19 left in the game thanks to a Kromka jumper. With 12:50 left, Gerald knocked down a 3-pointer to make it, 57-52 Slippery Rock. Slippery Rock's, Micah Till made it, 71-60 on a pair of free throws.
After Kromka's 27-points, Wise recorded a double-double with 19-points and 10-rebounds. Mulbah added 12-points for the Mountain Cats.
The Mountain Cats shot 42.6 % (26-61) from the floor, 2-14 from three, and 80 % (16-20) from the free-throw line.
Slippery Rock was led by Armstrong's 22-points, followed by Till's 20-points and 16-rebounds and Gerald chipped in 16 points.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a PSAC doubleheader with the women's team against Seton Hill on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to West Chester for a PSAC Crossover game next Wednesday.
