Mario Battaglia shot 16-over par to tie for 19th-place and lead the Mountain Cat men's golf team to an eight-place finish at Monday and Tuesday's season-opening California (PA) Crofton Invitational in Crofton MD.
Mercyhurst University's Jack Angelucci finished at even par with a pair of 72s to earn medalist honors, but Davis & Elkins (WV) College won the team title in the 10-team field at +38.
Battaglia shot a 79 in the first round and an 81 in the second round to tie for 19th-place at +16.Â
Mitch Jeffe tied for 24th, one shot behind Battaglia at +17 (83, 78), while
Brendan Villnave tied for 33rd (+20, 86, 78),
Grayson Hopple tied for 35th (+21, 81, 84), and
Zach Wagner finished 55th (+30, 91, 83) to round out the top-5 Pitt-Johnstown golfers.
Davis & Elkins won the team title at +38, while Indiana (PA), Millersville University, and West Chester all tied for second at +50, and Fairmont State (WV) University was fifth at +55. Pitt-Johnstown placed eighth at 73-over par.
The Mountain Cats travel to the West Chester Invitational at Penn Oaks Golf Club on April 5-6, and to the 2021 PSAC Championships at Hershey Country Club on April 10-11.
