Mauricio Hernandez fired a 1-over par 217 over three rounds to tie two others for second place and pace Pitt-Johnstown at the West Liberty (WV) University Fall Tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Steubenville, Ohio.
The sophomore recorded rounds of 71, 73 and 73 to top the Mountain Cats' lineup for the second time in three weeks after tying for 23rd at the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational earlier this month.
Pitt-Johnstown placed fifth in the seven-team field with a total team score of 899. Goldey-Beacom won the team title with an 867, 13 strokes better than runner-up finisher Glenville State.
Mario Battaglia, who was playing as an individual, shot a 3-over par 75 in the third round to finish with a 225, good enough to tie three others for 16th place.
Eli Ropietski shot a 227 (+11) to place 21st. Justin Scally was right behind him with a 228 (+12) to finish 22nd. Ethan Webb tied one other player with a 229 (+13) to come in 23rd overall. Parker Hilchey rounded out the team score with a 235 (+19) to tie for 41st.
Glenville State's Ben Fernandez registered rounds of 68, 69 and 77 to cap a 2-under par 214 performance to win individual championship honors.
The Mountain Cats will compete in the Mercyhurst University Fall Invitational in two weeks at the Lake View Country Club in North East.
