The Pitt-Johnstown men's and women's basketball teams will be back in action in the Sports Center, Wednesday evening when they host a PSAC Western Division doubleheader against Seton Hill. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 7:30 pm.
First-year
Head Coach D'wan Shackleford-Vickroy's Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats are 2-17 overall and 0-12 in the PSAC after last Wednesday's, 66-41, loss at No. 12/15 Gannon.
Belle Bosch scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds, while
Riley Childress collected 10 points, five rebounds, and a game-high four assists to guide the Mountain Cats.
M'laya Ainsworth added four points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Head Coach Maeve Gallagher (2
nd-year) and the Seton Hill Griffins, ranked fifth in both the WBCA and D2CSC National Polls, come in at17-2 overall and 11-1 in the PSAC following Saturday's 89-75 home loss to nationally-ranked Gannon.
Hallie Cowan scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while
Hailee Ford had 16 points and six boards, and
Abby Mankins chipped-in 12 points for the Griffins.
Since first meeting during the 2007-08 season, Seton Hill holds a 19-15 advantage. The Griffins snapped a four-game losing streak to the Mountain Cats by sweeping a pair of games last year. On Jan. 29 in Greensburg,
Cassidy Crawford scored a game-high 21 points and
Peyton Alazaus added 13 points, but Seton Hill secured a 79-67 victory behind
Christiane Frye's 19 point and Mankins' 13 points and game-high 12 rebounds. The Griffins then used 22 points from Cowan to hold off Pitt-Johnstown, 78-75, in the Sports Center on Feb. 28.
Hayden Taylor and Alazaus each scored 15 points to lead the Mountain Cats.
Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, in a three-way tie for fifth place with Seton Hill and California (PA) in the bunched up PSAC West, gave No. 9/23 Gannon everything it could handle last Wednesday. The Mountain Cats trailed by just two with :34 remaining, before the Golden Knights were able to hold on for a 91-83 victory and drop Pitt-Johnstown to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in conference-play.
Baden Forup posted career-highs of 26 points and 12 rebounds, and
Vinnie Cugini (15 points),
Adam Bilinsky (13 points), and
Nick Watts all scored in double figures.
Ryan Smith enters the game ranked 24
th on the Pitt-Johnstown All-Time Scoring List with 1,119 points, while former Seton Hill Griffin
Sean Dillon needs eight points to reach 1,000 for his career.
Seton Hill, 12-8 overall and 5-7 in the PSAC under third-year
Head Coach Ben Wilkins knocked off nationally-ranked Gannon, 79-72, on Saturday. The Griffins got game-highs of 24 points and nine rebounds from
Kendrick Curtis, 13 points from
Ryan Meis, and 12 points from
James Rice.
Since first meeting in 2006-07, Pitt-Johnstown holds a 26-11 advantage in the series. However, last season, the Griffins took a pair of games from the Mountain Cats. On Jan. 29 in Greensburg, Meis scored 16 points and
Caleb Whitaker added 15 points to lead Seton Hill to an 85-70 win.
Andy Zuchelli scored a game-high 20 points and Smith had 16 points for Pitt-Johnstown. The Griffins then earned a 62-59 victory in the Sports Center on Feb. 28 behind
Jimmy Moon's 16 points and eight rebounds. The Mountain Cats were led by
Gavin Headings' 16 points, while Watts had 12 points and seven rebounds, and
Will Kromka tallied 10 points and six rebounds.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC West doubleheader against Clarion next Wednesday evening in the Sports Center, before visiting Edinboro on Feb. 8 for a conference doubleheader.
