Josh Wise and
Jared Jakubick each scored 15 points to tie for game-high and lead a balanced Pitt-Johnstown attack in a strong, 82-54, victory over the University of the Sciences in Saturday's Second Round of the 2018 IUP Thanksgiving Classic. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 3-2.
Romano Sebastiani's layup and a
Caiden Landis free-throw gave the Mountain Cats a four-point lead eight minutes into the game.
The Sciences cut it to one on two occasions, with the last coming on Devan Rodman's free-throw at 7:57, but Pitt-Johnstown countered with a 19-5 run over the next seven minutes to build a 15-point lead.
Three-pointers from
Fred Mulbah and Jakubick and a basket in the paint by
Marcin Wiszomirski closed out eight straight Mountain Cat points to make it 24-15. Pitt-Johnstown extended it into double digits on another 3-pointer from Jakubick, before back-to-back baskets from Wise increased the lead to 35-20 with 1:17

left in the half.
The Devils got the deficit down to 37-25 at the break with Jordan White's 3-pointer and Paddy Casey's layup.
It was all Mountain Cats to begin the second half. Pitt-Johnstown outscored The Sciences 20 over the first nine minutes to build the lead to 57-30 on five points apiece from Mulbah and Wise.
Jakubick's third 3-pointer of the game gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead at 28.
The Devils got as close as 18 with 5:08 to play on Danny Kelly's 3-pointer, but Pitt-Johnstown regained control and coasted to the 28-point victory.
Wise finished with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting, five rebounds and three assists, while Jakubick had 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists to lead Pitt-Johnstown. Mulbah had 10 points and six assists, Wiszomirski had nine points and six rebounds, and Landis had nine points. Pitt-Johnstown also got seven points from Sebastiani and six points, eight rebounds and five assists from
John Paul Kromka.
Pitt-Johnstown shot 51.6% (32-62) from the field, 7-19 from 3-point range, and 11-22 from the free-throw line. The Mountain Cats, who outrebounded The Sciences, 43-25, turned 18 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points.
The Devils were held to just 34.5% (19-55) shooting for the game. The Sciences was also 5-18 from behind the 3-point line and 11-17 from the charity stripe.
Casey scored 12 points and Brendan Crawford added eight points and seven rebounds for The Sciences, which fell to 2-4.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a non-conference game against Carlow on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before opening PSAC-play at Mansfield on December 1 and at Shippensburg on December 2.
